Intracorp was the consulting company for the revised ABID (Association for Boquete Integral Development) plan just finish. The plan is what is call POTADU (Plan to Sort Territory ,Environment and Urban Development of the Boquete Municipal). Now the civil society and the Municipality are responsible for the implementation of the plan.

This presentation will be presented by the mayor from the Municipality (and perhaps others) and Rodrigo Marciacq from ADIB as the civil society. The presentation will be short and the floor will be open for questions.

The idea is to get input from the audience of areas of interest regarding the plan, to provide more information about the content of the plan, and to advise how the foreign community in Boquete can be involved.

Dr. Alan Handt will speak about the mission and their purpose here in Boquete and in the comarca.

I will give an update on the programs and projects available. I will also likely talk about education. The mission consists of the following programs at this time.

Clothing ministry, food ministry, Bible Institute, construction, farming, medical/dental, Boquete church services in Spanish on Sunday morning, and Boquete church services in English on Sunday evening, dormitory for young ladies, school program, benevolence, transportation, Mission Coffee, Saturday morning Bible Study in English and Spanish, obreros in the comarca and the churches there, hosting short term mission trips, VBS programs. I will likely pick on of these topics such as the Bible Institute and our purpose for training the pastors, but if you need more specifics, let me know.

General Coordinator, Dra. María Elisa Ruiz, will be our speaker. The directive board will be present in support of this meeting.

This is a great opportunity for participants in building a community, to face the challenges of macro changes. Boquete is a community that provides the perfect scenario for understanding the values and resources that must be kept for future generations to enjoy. In this presentation, ADIB will present the development of activities at this level and the future activities Boqueteños are involved in.

Dr. Newton Osborne will be our speaker. Dr. Osborne helps run a free clinic in Palmira primarily for the indigenous. He will discuss the care being provided including the importance of prenatal care for preventing certain illnesses in both mother and baby and, what pre-pregnancy preparations do for the health of mother and baby. He will also discuss what preventive measures are taken to prevent: prematurity, fetal infections, pregnancy-induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia, certain fetal malformations.

Bixby Tapiero Candanado will be our speaker. She is a nutritionist here in Chiriqui. Bixby will talk about the special need for prenatal control and nutrition intervention in order to decrease the malnutrition problems in the indigenous population since malnutrition problems start not at child birth but at pregnancy. Also, she will talk about her prenatal clinic and luncheon project for pregnant/lactating women and children younger than 5 years old. Kids under 5 are the most susceptible to die of severe malnutrition in the Boquete district.need to stop this because the government will not address this problem.

Nigel Meager will be our speaker and will present 1. Hydroelectric schemes in Boquete and the town’s response. 2. The context of Boquet’s development plan (ordenimiento). 3. Deforestation and land use threats in the national parks near Boquete. 4. International Park La Amistrad as a World Heritage Site in danger. 5. The Association for the Conservation of the Biosphere (Boquete’s highly effective environmental action group) 6. Positive projects: a) a footpath network b) ideas for reforestation and planting native trees in Boquete, in private gardens and along the Rio Caldera 7. Would anyone like to help? I will be brief on each one seeing this as chance to paint the big picture as seen by ACB.

Elaine Mayer will be our speaker. Elaine is a retired biologist who has studied nutrition for most of her life. She will share information about nutrition and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Plus, she promises to offer simple solutions that will decrease your risk of desease, reduce DNA damage that speeds aging, build your immune system and imporve your overall health.
